My Redeemer Lives
Alan’s TTIM Stories #68
Every Christmas season we hear a masterpiece of music – Handel’s Messiah. The most played, popular song is the Hallelujah Chorus. Personally, it is my second favorite song.
My favorite is I know that my Redeemer liveth. Where is the inspiration behind the song? It’s not from the Gospels, not from Old Testament Messianic prophecies, not from the letter from the Apostles. It is found in the Book of Job (19:25). When Job lost everything, he knew one truth – My Redeemer Lives.
I am a fan of science. The constant search to explain the universe is fascinating and useful – medical breakthroughs, green energy, pollution abatement, etc. Although science can answer the questions “how” and “what,” science comes up short to answer the question “why.”
Some may believe it’s a question of philosophy. The question can be answered in scientific terminology. A basic law of physics is action and reaction. If we consider creation as a reaction, there must be an action – purpose. Without purpose our existence makes no sense and is contrary to physics. What is behind creation? Another Bible verse holds the answer – God is love.
Creation is God’s love – love so strong it had to be expressed in physical form (creation). Choice is the cost and reward – good versus evil. A biologically-inhabited planet to sustain human life cannot exist without dangers emphasizing the quality of life compared to quantity of years. With the purpose of creation established there is only one way for the direction of the universe – love will prevail.
When we consider the condition of the world today, there is a tendency to lose hope. But when we understand the ultimate direction of the universe behind the purpose of creation, we realize that hope was never necessary. How do I know this? Because My Redemer Lives!
