Alan’s TTIM Stories #22
In a sequel to last week’s post on Beta Readers and Book Reviews, below is a book review of an author I’ve followed for years.
Book Review
The Boss of Centocelle – An Italian Murder Mystery
by P.J. Mann
The investigation of a seemingly unprovoked murder of two young cousins leads to a maze of connections that reveal crimes greater than the initial incident. Commissario Scala is on the case – the sixth in the series set in present-day Rome.
Scala uses a remarkable awareness of details and ability to use his organizational talents to direct the officers under his command. The story follows a precise pattern of inquiries followed by deductions from a dedicated law enforcement officer. There are connections, surveillance, physical evidence, phone tapping and phone records – who talked to who; who was where and when. Experience and natural abilities are jolted by moments of clarity to dissect a complex set of circumstances to ascertain the facts of the case.
The author goes beyond the thoughts of the pursuer to give the reader an understanding of the pursued, giving a human side of motives and reactions, especially as tension builds as the police zero in on the criminals.
Throughout the course of the investigation, Scala’s heart is pulled between his obsession of solving mysteries and being a family man. Does being a good person mean doing everything possible to prevent future murders, or the duty to be an attentive father and husband? The tense atmosphere of the police station is broken by moments of tenderhearted moments of precious family time.
Will Detective Scala and his team of investigators
solve the murders? Will the investigation uncover
more evil than originally expected? Take the journey
through the process in The Boss of Centocelle.
